Thermocouple materials include wires, strips, and protective tubes that can be used at temperatures up to 1260°C (2300°F). For many industrial heating processes, especially those at high temperatures, the most accurate, convenient, and simplest method of temperature measurement is using thermocouples.

The gap between each arm and the platinum is calibrated, and the EMF value is printed on the coil or spool.

Size range

Wire: Kanthal® thermocouple wires are available in sizes from 0.05 to 8.0 mm (0.0019 to 0.315 inches). Thermocouple wires in the size range of 0.0254 to 0.51 mm (0.001 to 0.0201 inches) are available with or without insulation coating.

Thermocouple tape: The standard dimensions for thermocouple tape are 0.10 to 3.0 mm (0.0039 to 0.181 inches) in thickness and 4 to 195 mm (0.157 to 7.68 inches) in width.
